Trending Flavour : Gula Aren
Appearing first in the now famous Taiwanese bubble tea, the brown sugar trend rapidly expanded to Asian and Western countries and has been duplicated by most beverage players in the market. Many brands have launched their syrups, coffees, teas, or dairy products featuring the distinctive taste of brown sugar.
Looking for new innovative taste, Food and Beverage manufacturers have tried to recreate this success story with a more local approach to attract customers on their domestic markets.
Initially produce in Indonesia, Gula Aren (Palm Sugar) is produced from the sap of specific palm tree native within the equator nations of South-East Asia. Through ancient know-how, locals have been processing the nature’s gift by slow heating and stirring of the saps until it thickened and caramelised. It gave rise to the authentic taste and aroma that is now used in various applications.
We observed increasing launch with Gula Aren or its variant as a profile in applications such as Snacks, Hot Beverages, Confectioneries, Bakery, Dairy and RTD. Initially confined on the Indonesia market, the trend has now broadened and penetrated others South-East Asian markets such as Malaysia and Thailand and has the potential to become mainstream.
